- The author talks about the house they bought that is located near Mirror Lake in Vermont. Topics include the other ponds that were upgraded into lakes by the state of Vermont in the 1960s including Dog Pond, Sabin Pond, and Nelson Pond, the special intimacy offered by each season to those who live beside a New England lake, and the cues offered by the lake for swimming, sailing, and watching the light play across the surface.
