Abstract

The productive restructuring of the Brazilian economy, which occurred from the 1990s, together with the industrial decentralization and greater inclusion of Brazil in international trade gave rise to a controversy facing the national economy on whether or not there is a deindustrialization process in the country after 1990. In order to contribute to this debate this paper aims to examine the topic from a different perspective, which is to observe the importance of sectors from the perspective of economic indicators calculated from the national input-output matrices estimated for the years 2000 and 2007. Thus, the production, employment, added value and imports multipliers were estimated, together with the Rasmussen-Hirschman linkages indexes. The main result is that the discussion about deindustrialization and the Dutch disease can be overcome by an even more worrying debate, namely the need to resume the strategic planning the productive structure of the Brazilian economy.
