The Fusion and Conflict Between Engineering Education and General Education in China After 1949.

The article examines the changing relationship between engineering and general education in China in 5 periods, Republican period (1911-1949), early days of the People's Republic (1949-1966), Cultural Revolution period (1966-1976), the reform and opening-up period and the current period (1992-21st century). Topics discussed include the liberal education at Tsinghua University prior to 1949 and the humanities and general education for engineers after the end of the cultural revolution.
