Abstract

Results of serological surveys for brucellosis, leptospirosis, bovine herpesvirus1 (BHV-1), bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) and Neospora caninum from 1999 to 2009 were reviewed to analyze the behavior of infectious agents affecting bovine reproduction in the Department of Caquetá, Colombia,. The information was obtained from the data base of ICA (Colombian Agricultural Institute), sectional Caquetá. The variables considered were: infectious agents, years, municipalities, regions and sexes. The percentage of seropositive to brucellosis was 6.4% and the highest values were obtained for bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1). In the case of Neospora, research began in 2007 and only 36 samples were worked in 3 years, of which 12 were seropositive (33.3%). There were differences between municipalities, regions and sexes. In the latter case, females had higher seropositivity than males except for BHV-1. Although the number of animals studied in some cases was low, it was concluded that infectious agents affecting reproduction appear to be significant in the department of Caquetá and their role among the causes of reproductive problems needs to be study in depth.
