Abstract
- This article describes the situation with respect to students with learning difficulties and learning disabilities in Australia and New Zealand. In two parallel sections related to each country, we provide an understanding of the terms "learning difficulties" and "learning disabilities" in each country. We then report on the support services offered to students with these diagnoses before discussing identification and diagnosis procedures. We end each section by considering the instruction and intervention offered in schools. We conclude the article by identifying some of the challenges faced by both countries and the changes needed in terms of funding, teacher education, professional development, and research.
