A prototype sampling loom was redesigned by introducing a computer-controlled electropneumatic shedding mechanism, weaving design and patterning as a new version of the semi-automated punched-card sampling loom, which is manufactured by Gulas-Machine (Istanbul). In initial studies, for control of shedding motion the mechanism was equipped with a PLC system. Later, instead of using PLC system, a microcontroller electronic card was designed, which than improved the control of the shedding system. This paper reports on the findings concernings the use of PLC and microcontroller systems which were both developed for electric-electronic control of the loom. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
