Abstract
- The article discusses the reconstruction of mercantilism in history by studying the political economy of the British empire in the 17th and 18th centuries. Topics discussed include the role of mercantilism as an important imperial philosophy, economic nationalism through the state's role in trade management, and the displacement of bullionism. Also mentioned are mercantilists' focus on balance of trade and the emergence of industrial-capital mercantilism.
