Abstract
- The article presents a study which examines the crimes committed by U.S. soldiers in Europe during and after World War II in May 1945 to July 1946. It analyzes statistical summaries of investigations and charges against American soldiers in the European Theater of Operations. It also discusses the important implications of a higher rate of American crimes, such as rape, for historical interpretation of Wester Europe's cultural and social transition from war to recovery.
