Abstract: This article deals with the present-day situation of the Sociology of Sport in Spain. In the first place, it analyzes how sport progressed from being a social concern to an object for sociological study. The second part of the article deals with the institutional framework in which the teaching of and research into the Sociology of Sport take place, considered to be a crucial dynamic factor in the emergence of the discipline.
