Abstract
- The article focuses on Russian politics under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin, who introduced a system called "managed democracy" in 2000 that continued until 2012 despite Dmitry Medvedev serving as president. Topics discussed include Putin's governance style that depends on indirection and interpretation rather than command and control, the role of Putin's so-called "curators" or semiofficial figures in operating the government and the redefinition of "sistema" under Putin.
