Abstract

This article focuses on a study of uterine leiomyosarcoma discovered after uterine artery embolisation. A 41-year-old, nulliparous, Afro-Caribbean woman was referred complaining of urinary frequency for a few months. Transvaginal ultrasound assessment of the pelvis showed the uterus enlarged by a fibroid, which was very vascular on power Doppler assessment. Uterine artery embolisation was offered. Since the first case was carried out in 1989 there has been increasing interest in the fibroid embolisation, where angiographic techniques are used to occlude the vascular supply of fibroids.
