Abstract
- The article discusses the causes of the continued longevity of the legal hourly rate and the need to develop an approach that can guide both inside and outside counsel. Topics covered include the need for an alternative fee arrangement (AFA) to the hourly rate, the concept of value and its application to the legal service, and the need for AFAs to encourage law firms to review their structures and practices in order to eliminate inefficiencies.
