Abstract

A new species from Northern Peru, Jaltomata anteropilosa S. Leiva & Mione (Solanaceae), is described and illustrated in detail. J. anteropilosa inhabits inside the General cemetery of the city of Corongo, Corongo Province, Ancash Department, Peru. Located at 8º34'24.3" S; 77º53'38.2" W, at 3117 m of elevation. Has 8-10 flowers per inflorescence, corolla with a very short tube and rotate limb; white-creamy with one intense-purple ring at medium height and thirty spots in the basal area; pubescent surrounded by a simple hair cover externally transparent, internal glabra, area free of the deep-purple or lilac filaments, the ½ basal and white-creamy the ½ distal surrounded with simple external transparent hairs that occupy about 50 percent of the basal area, ciliated anthers along the veins, 76-113 (-153) seeds per berry, bush 60-80 cm of height. In addition to the description, illustrations, and data regarding geographic distribution, ecology, phenology, current status and uses of the species are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
