Abstract
- The author reflects on what it takes to develop strong leaders in occupational safety. Topics include dissatisfaction and courage as two critical attributes that fit into a strong leadership mix, a statement from Doctor Robert Jarvik, inventor of the artificial heart, regarding change-oriented leaders, and how to achieve a balance between "forward pressure" and preserving existing policies including making fear an ally, changing one's viewpoint and solving long-standing injury problems.
