Pediatric eye emergencies.

Many ocular traumas in childhood occur at home, and are at risk for unilateral visual loss. Gentle examination allows to check for signs requiring an ophthalmic examination and initiate the first-step treatment. Many lesions are superficial and completely resolve after topical treatment. Penetrating injuries and contusions can lead to profound amblyopia. Concerning the orbitopalpebral traumas, paediatric specificities need to be taken in account. Amblyopia and its treatment is a central point for the prognosis and encourages prevention. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
