Abstract

Comic books are among the most popular forms of literature, and usually the reader easily assimilated them. All school levels and disciplines can didactically use it. In matters relating to Natural History and Science, its use is particularly interesting, since studies indicate that the assimilation of scientific knowledge is most effective when it uses elements of everyday student life. An analysis of Arachnophobia graphic novel (a novelization of the eponymous movie) illustrates the use of comics in the classroom. The teacher can works many biological concepts based on this magazine. Topics range from the more specific, related to Zoology (hunting strategies, reproduction and life cycle in arachnids, parental care, thanatosis) to general biological concepts (hybridization, dispersal, colonialism, population control, predation), even including such topics as Biodiversity, Taxonomy and Health Programs.
