Abstract

This paper approaches some environmental justice movements from the perspective of political ecology. It presents the cases of territorial and natural resources defense in Bhopal, India (1984), Chijoy, Guatemala (1985), and Laguna de Cuyutlán, Mexico (2010). My research concentrates on women's participation in these cases. I demonstrate that women are the most affected by environmental devastation due to the direct relation of their activities with natural resources. From this vantage point, I expose the state of pollution of Zula River at its crossing through the community of Ocotlan Jalisco, in Mexico. Following the ecofeminist school of thought, I present a recommendation to encourage the community participation in the sanitation of the river. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
