Abstract

This article focuses on the archives produced by the German civil authorities during World War II in Carinthia, Upper Carniola and Lower Styria. An interesting fact about these records is that they are kept at the German Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv) in Berlin. Rather than being kept together in a single fond, the individual documents are scattered and included in several different fonds based on the principle of provenance. Another interesting fact is that many of the documents refer to the so-called occupied territories of Carinthia and Carniola, i.e. Upper Carniola and the Mežiška Valley, while some of them refer to the Lower Styria region. Some of the discussed records (mostly posters and proclamations) are kept at the archive of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the branch office of the Bundersarchiv in Koblenz.
