Abstract
- The article examines the history of the Paniolo, cowboys that lived on the island of Hawaii. Topics examined include how the Hawaiian monarchy was overthrown in 1893 and then annexed by the United States in 1898, insights from Peter Mills, an archaeologist at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and the Mauna Kea dormant volcano. Insights on how Hispanic cowboys and horses impacted the culture of the Paniolo are also offered.
