Abstract

More needs to be done to reduce the ill effects of necessary treatments, cull out those treatments with unacceptable employment and financial consequences, and provide data so that decisions regarding therapies with marginal benefit and potentially serious employment and financial consequences can be more informed. Steps to achieve this goal include systematic data collection and its broad dissemination, research to gain an understanding of how treatment interferes with work and economic viability, and the development of interventions that ultimately aid patients and their families.
