Abstract

The article discusses a research related to gout and sickle cell disease to differentiate between gout flares and vaso-occlusive crises (VOC). Topics discussed include high risks for gout in patients with high uric acid and low haemoglobin, differentiating between acute pain episodes on the basis of lack of increase in lactate dehydrogenase enzyme and white blood cells, and implementing non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as a therapy or acute gout.
