Abstract
- This essay explores the issue of trafficking of women and children for sexual and commercial exploitation (CSE) with reference to India. The rising incidence of trafficking of women and children for CSE imposes a serious problem to both government and public agencies. The article analyses the situation of child and women trafficking in India by reviewing the content of law that is enacted against trafficking of women and children in the context of the policies enacted to both categories of vulnerable groups from such abuses. The researcher made use of existing documents and data from the government documents as well as from the civil society reports to provide a critical analysis to the legal situation of trafficking. The findings suggest that the ineffectiveness of India authorities in the area of combating trafficking of women and children for CSE is related to missing link in the policies formulated to combat the menace and as such, attention should be shifted to a holistic approach of tackling antihuman rights violations in which trafficking of women and children for CSE and other forms of trafficking will be embedded.
