Abstract
- The article discusses the history of Mobeetie, Texas which was called the Mother City of the Texas Panhandle. Topics covered include the start of the town of Mobeetie as a camp for buffalo hunters in 1874 called Hidetown, renaming of the town to Sweetwater in 1878 and then to Mobeetie, the selection of Mobeetie as county seat of Wheeler County in 1879 and the destruction of most of the structures in Mobeetie by an 1898 tornado and by the construction of the railway in 1902.
