Abstract

Examines the so-called economic crisis in Great Britain. Strikes by trade unions mainly in the public service industries; Unfounded stories of old-age pensioners dying of famine, or children denied essential hospital care, or typhoid spreading where fresh water is unavailable from the tap; Reaction of Prime Minister James Callaghan to the crisis; Author's view that the fundamental cause of Britain's troubles is a persistent low productivity which has its real origins in the policies of both management and government.
