Abstract

Lepilemur mittermeieri, endemic of the Ampasindava peninsula was only recently described (Rabarivola et al., 2006). Its conservation status and distribution are still not clearly defined and until very recently the species was still classified «Data Deficient» by the IUCN (Schwitzer et al., 2013). Using the "line transect distance sampling" method (Buckland et al., 2004) and Distance software (Thomas et al., 2010) we estimated the density of the population in Ampasindava. This survey work allowed us to construct an inventory of the lemur species present in the Ampasindava area and to estimate a density of 133 individuals per km² for the population of L. mittermeieri.
