- The article discusses the impact of the success of ride-sharing startups such as Uber Technologies Inc. on lenders such as Florida bank BankUnited Inc., which lend significant amounts of money against taxi cab licenses, also known as medallions. According to the article, U.S. banking regulators seized New York lender Montauk Credit Union in September 2015 after it had declined as a result of medallion loans.
