The article discusses the planning of the Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (iBG) at Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir, Turkey in relation to Turkish political conflicts. Topics include the role of iBG director Mehmet Öztürk in the project, the funding of the institute in relation to Turkish scientific culture, and government funding of research in relation to the iBG.
