Abstract

A literary criticism for books including "Der Process" by Franz Kafka and "1984" by George Orwell are presented. It outlines the data-collection and surveillance practices of contemporary Western societies. It also discusses the architectural paradigm of a disciplinary modernity and internalization of social norms traced by German sociologist Norbert Elias.
