Abstract

The article presents a case study of Rachel, a 40 year old lady and examines the effectiveness of marijuana in treating pain. Rachel finds marijuana to be effective in treating acute neck pain that drugs couldn't. Studies carried out by Barth Wilsey an anaesthesiologist and an expert on marijuana and pain confirms its effectiveness in treating neuropathic pain like Rachel's. Research is afoot to confirm if medical marijuana with lower proportion of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and higher proportion of cannabidiol (CBD) is more effective and produces less side effects as CBD is non psychoactive. Marijuana's effectiveness in treating non-neuropathic pain is not well researched. Other studies indicate that marijuana can offer pain relief sans the side effects of drugs and opioids like morphine.
