Abstract

Cupronickel is known as an alloy. It is composed of mainly copper. Cupronickels also include 10-30% nickels. It is used around us. We had very limited information about surface of cupronickels coins. In this study, we investigated surface of a cupronickel coin by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and Fourier Transformation Infra Red (FTIR) spectroscopy. We found specific white regions on the surface. We could detect chlorine on the surface of cupronickel coins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
