Abstract

The article discusses the adoption of offspring among animal species. Topics include the impact of poor offspring recognition on accidental adoption among eastern grey kangaroos, the tendency for offspring to leave home in search of better parents in order to better their food options and chances for survival, and researcher Brian Wisenden's observation of parent convict cichlids kidnapping smaller offspring in order to use them as living shields to protect their own offspring from predators.
