Abstract

Effectiveness of Mercurius solubilis at 30 CH (Hahnemann's centesimal dose) as a homeopathic treatment versus conventional therapy with antimicrobials was evaluated in 180 piglets suffering from yellowish white diarrhea. An open, non-sequential, randomized phase II clinical test was performed. Piglets were distributed into three groups according to treatment: (1) 0,6 ml of 20 % oral gentamycin for seven days; (2) five sublingual drops of Mercurius solubilis at 30 CH for seven days, and (3) five sublingual drops of Mercurius solubilis the first three days and 0.6 ml of 20 % oral gentamycin the other four days. A significant difference (P<0,05) favoring piglets recovery by the homeopathic treatment was detected, which proved to be more effective and economical than the conventional therapy.
