Abstract

Seismic instrumentation of buildings is a specific form of monitoring and represents a modern, complex and multilateral system for seismic data acquisition, both on the seismic characteristics of the site and on the dynamic response characteristics of structures. Some models and schemes of seismic instrumentation are summarized: at base or only in free-field/reference; at base and on the top floor; in free field/reference, at base and at the top floor; at base, at the middle of height and on the top floor; multilevels lateral motion, torsion at the top floor etc. A study about measurements of vibrations with triaxial accelerometers to the location of an office building and determination of the corresponding dynamic parameters (e.g. fundamental oscillation period) based on seismic and non-seismic vibrations records is presented.
