Abstract

Maintenance plays a priority role within providing the operability of the whole plant and has an important effect on its productivity. Reaching zero unscheduled idle hours, zero losses in machinery speed and zero defects due to the machinery condition unambiguously prevents the decline in sales. Introducing modern methods of both the production management and maintenance process brings a decrease in production costs. Maintenance in coal power plants has an essential importance. Strategic approaches securing the maintenance, as well as the generic terms and definitions for technical, administrative a managerial areas of maintenance, have undergone a historical development. The management of particular power plants in the Czech Republic applies modern and effective methods which fulfill long-term goals. In the field of maintenance, however, no universal opinion exists regarding the most effective implementing the faultless operation of this strategically important activity. This contribution is focused on selecting the optimum process of maintenance and making it possible in Czech power plants. Within the decision process, the newest findings in the area of effective maintenance management are considered, which are directed to a modern concept of "slender enterprise". Regarding the fact that that each proposed variant of solution has its risks, this entry contains both the identification and proposal of analyzing the recognized risks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
