Abstract

The article presents a report from a March 12-14, 2015 conference in Essen, Germany on the socioeconomic conditions and scarcity surrounding German occupation during World War II. Topics of presentations delivered included the role of food in controlling economic output in Belgian factories, female prostitution and sexual bartering for food, and black market food economies in France and Poland.
