Abstract

The author’s recent studies on the critical current properties in Bi-2223 multifilamentary tapes as well as YBCO coated IBAD tapes have been reviewed. Extended electric field vs. current density (<f>E</f>–<f>J</f>) characteristics were studied over wide range of temperature, <f>T</f>, magnetic field, <f>B</f>, and angle, <f>θ</f>. Based on the analysis of statistic <f>Jc</f> distribution and scaling, we derived an analytical expression for <f>J</f> as a function of <f>E</f>, <f>T</f>, <f>B</f>, and <f>θ</f>. This method allows us to describe and extrapolate the nonlinear <f>E</f>–<f>J</f> characteristics even in extremely low <f>E</f> region and/or high <f>B</f> region based on rather simple measurements.
