Abstract

The article informs that in the last two decades or so, Israel has gone through a profound change, as of June 1, 1990. The prevalence of its democratic regime and political culture can no longer be taken for granted, as it was perhaps before. In this span of time, Israel fought three and a half wars, has seen the Labor party ousted from office after half a century of hegemony in favor of the populist right-wing Likud, has experienced an unprecedented religious-nationalist revival and perhaps overriding it all has clung to its domination over an ever-growing hostile and now uprising Palestinian population in the occupied territories. The three books under review in this article register in different ways a concern with the recent trajectory of Israeli politics. Most of the book is an extended research report modeled on the resource-mobilization approach to collective action. Put shortly, this approach is concerned with the question of how multiple individual decisions accumulate into aggregated political action.
