Abstract

Argues that the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is to be blame for the major air accidents in the nation in the 1960s. Events that led to the crashing of a Delta DC8 while landing at New Orleans in late March; Revelation that FAA had no safety regulations governing evacuation of airplanes before September 1963 when it issued a directive on the subject; Argument against the inadequacy of the grant-in-aid made available by the government for airport construction; Reasons cited by the U.S. government for not spending more on airplane safety and airports, including the Vietnam war.
