Abstract: The article discusses technological developments in the video services industry as of May 2014, particularly the launching of the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) software coding engine that was developed by NTT Media Intelligence Laboratories and commercialized by NTT Advanced Technologies. Also discussed are the 4K and 8K high-definition video, video coding techniques, and the use of high-speed communication technology like long term evolution (LTE).
