Abstract
- Shell structures made of stainless steels are used e. g. in tank structures and biogas plants. They are fully recyclable, do not need any corrosion protection and therefore, they are valuable in terms of environmental protection and environmental compatibility. However, the design of these shells with regard to their buckling resistance is limited according to DIN EN 1993-1-6 due to the non-linear stress-strain-behaviour of stainless steels. For this reason, additional temperature and slenderness dependent buckling strength reduction factors for axial loaded cylindrical shells made of austenitic stainless steels were already developed by Schmidt and Hautala. The transferability of these buckling strength reduction factors on shell structures made of ferritic and duplex stainless steels will be reviewed in the context of the European RFCS research project BiogaSS by means of experimental, numerical and theoretical studies. The results shall be incorporated in the revision of DIN EN 1993-1-6. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
