Abstract

The most recent data places Colombia as a highly corrupt country. Despite being a characteristic of Colombian society -and a very expensive one-, corruption has been a very little studied phenomenon. In order to contribute to the scholarship in this field, this article describes and analyzes the perceptions of corruption that inhabitants of the Colombian Coffee Region have. Through a quantitative design, this article measures and tests different typologies of corruption that scholars have suggested in the literature. The analysis of the collected data problematizes some of these typologies and, specifically, shows that corruption is a difficult phenomenon that resists a-priori definitions as it is strongly influenced by the individuals, perception about it. In addition, this data shows a strong relationship between perception of corruption and education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
