Abstract

This roundtable essay on decolonization discusses the availability and location of archival history sources related to Great Britain's decolonization of countries, focusing especially on Kenya. It explores the use of the National Archives at Kew, England to understand the events of decolonization in Kenya, especially the events surrounding the Mau Mau Emergency in Kenya. The author's book "Imperial Reckoning: The Untold Story of Britain’s Gulag in Kenya" and "Histories of the Hanged: The Dirty War in Kenya and the End of Empire," by David Anderson, both on Mau Mau Emergency, are considered.
