Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinicopathologic features, diagonsis and prognosis of testicular borderline mucinous tumor. Methods One case of testicular borderline mucinous tumor tissue was prepared for EnVision two-step immunohistochemical staining, and the pertinent literature was reviewed. Results The right testis grew gradually with occasional pain. Histologically, the boundary of the tumor tissues was clear, the capsule was complete, the tumor was consisted of multiple cavities, the cavities were lined by intestinal-type epithelium, some were single-layer columnar epithelium, some were papillary proliferation and pseudostratification with mild-moderate nuclear atypia were present. There was no solid cell nests, stromal invasion or pathologic mitosis. Immunophenotype: PCK, CEA, CA19-9 were positive in tumor epithelium, the scattered neuroendocrine cells stained with CgA, Actin was positive in the smooth muscle around the tumor epithelium. Ki-67 showed 45% of labeled nuclei of tumor cells. VIMENTIN, PSMA, PLAP, AFP, Calretinin, MC, Syn were carried out with negative results. Conclusions The primary testicular mucinous tumor is rare, but as for the existing data, this type of testicular tumor resembles the ovarian counterparts, exhibits the same morphologic spectrum, classification, and the prognosis is probably the same. It is very important for the differential diagnosis to closely link the clinical characteristics and imageological detection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
