Abstract
- An essay exploring the juvenilia of Jane Austen entitled "The History of England from the Reign of Henry the 4th to the Death of Charles the 1st. By a partial, prejudiced, & ignorant Historian," is presented. It focuses on how Austen supports the cause of the Stuarts and Jacobitism within her work, including her views on the martyrdoms of Mary, Queen of Scots and Charles I, King of Great Britain. Contemporary histories and political philosophies by authors including Edmund Burke, Mary Wollstonecraft, and Thomas Taylor are considered.
