Abstract

Economic and financial discourse, issued by various social partners and intended for citizens, serves some ideological interests that are not always explicitly transmitted, but instead, are occasionally published using linguistic and pragmatic resources that can alter their meaning. One of these resources is lexical modalization or, more specifically, the use of words created by following the internal procedures of the Spanish language. The aim of this work is the study such a process which is used to achieve a modalized. To do this, we have compiled a corpus taken from the Spanish press, from December 2011 to November 2013, in which, the speaker's lexical selection, the lexical resources employed, and the explicit and implicit meanings of the lexical units used in the discourse have been analyzed. Therefore, it has been concluded that this type of lexicon is a decisive factor in the expression of subjectivity, in ideological manipulation, and in the dissemination of the economic and financial discourse in Spanish.
