Abstract
- The article discusses U.S. federal health officials' calls for H.I.V. patients to begin courses of antiretroviral drug treatment as soon as possible upon receiving a diagnosis, noting the findings of the Strategic Timing of Antiretroviral Treatment (Start) clinical trial that found positive results associated with early treatment. Topics addressed include H.I.V. and AIDS organizations' efforts to raise funds to increase H.I.V. patients' access to the drugs, as well as reasons for a lack of access.
