Abstract

In this paper, a switched reluctance motor (SRM) with amorphous cores was designed and assembled. Comparing with another SRM that was made of silicon steel (50DW360) cores, the experimental results show that the core loss of amorphous core is only 10% of the silicon steel core at 600 Hz and 0·5 T and the maximum value of phase inductance in amorphous prototype is lower than that of 50DW360 by 7%. The motor performance, including flux distribution, copper loss, iron loss and efficiency, was simulated and predicted by the finite element analysis (FEA) method using Infolytica software. The results show that the iron loss of SRM with amorphous cores can be reduced by 90% and efficiency can be improved by approximately 2%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
