Abstract
- The article discusses Providence, Rhode Island, overseer of the poor William Larned. According to the article, Larned was first elected Providence overseer of the poor in 1792 and that his duties included determining whether newcomers to Providence would be permitted to stay or forced to leave. The article discusses Larned's sympathies with the American Revolution, his personal finances, and his financial assistance to the needy and evictions of Providence residents deemed unsettled.
