Abstract

Introduction: Nowadays the treatment of Penetrating abdominal injuries is not tackle in the same process. The aim of this survey is to describe the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects. Materials and methods: This retrospective study on 4 years, from January 2006 to January 2010 about 70 cases of Penetrating abdominal injury, is realized in the general surgery department of the teaching hospital of Gabriel TOURE. Blunt abdominal injuries are not concerned. Results: The frequency was 1.2%. The patients were 12 to 59 years old. Themean age was 27.7 years old withsexratio of 9 for men.Almost 2 patients on 5 (38.36%) were living in the first and second areas the District of Bamako. Criminal injuries were the main circumstance encountered representing 70%. 2.9% of patient had psychiatric symptoms in their past medical story. 45.7% of patients use to take hard drugs. Epiploon and intestine was the main organs subject of evisceration. 17 patients 53 didn't benefit of surgery intervention. None necessary laparotomia and the post operatory morbidity rates were respectively 30.2% and 15.1%. Conclusion: The treatment of Penetrating abdominal injury is almost difficult. Effective selection of patients is helpful to avoid unnecessary laparotomia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
