Abstract

Animation and game depends of exquisite story-telling and a successful story rests on top of three pillars; Acting, Movement Performance and Aesthetics of the animation. The field of animation and games depends on technology and science to achieve success in considerably large portion of their development process and iteratively improve each other. The art challenges the technology, and the technology inspires the art. As Walt Disney and early Disney animators suggested in 1934 the 12 principles of animation are essential to produce a successful story telling piece of art. "Solid Drawing" one of the principles was re-iterated in to 3D animation by John Lasseter (Pixar) to help digital artists to improve their skills in keeping the form of the 3D mesh (character). This research reviews the Dual Quaternion mathematical solutions to help contribute towards successful deformations in Tax Avery style exaggerated character animations and attempts to utilize plus and minus average calculations to generate a convincing and solid spline twist hierarchy.
